The New Zealand Cadet Forces Training Programme goes for three to five years and is NZQA accredited. Cadets can earn credits to assist them with their NCEA certificate. Training is comprehensive and covers:
- Cadet Forces Knowledge
- General Service Knowledge
- Instructional Technique
- Drill and Marching
- Skills covered in the skills programme
Training is conducted on unit parade nights with practical elements taught at the unit training area as well as in the field. Part of the training is for the cadets to teach the younger cadets and to pass on the training. Training is assessed by qualified staff and then passed on to NZQA if the topics are NZQA accredited.
