Tauranga Army Cadets

Tonight the Unit hosted the first BOP Officers Club, Les Munro speech competition for the Tauranga Area. The speech had to be base on 100 years on from World 1 and how do New Zealanders see the world today. The speech had to be a minimum of 7mins and max time of 10mins.
The Competitors were:
Able Cadet Andrew's from Ts Chatham
Under Officer Taylor from the Western Bay of Plenty Cadet Unit.
Leading Air Cadet Thomas from No. 16 Squadron.
The cadets wrote some excellent speeches and delivered them really well.
It was a close competition and Leading Air Cadet Thomas placing 1st as the overall winner, 2nd place was Under Officer Taylor and 3rd place Able Cadet Andrew's.
The Les Munro Trophy (dedicated to former SQNLDR Les Munro from 617 Squadron) was presented by Mrs Munro.

Tauranga Army Cadets

Freyberg VC Platoon marches out at the 02/18 Recruit Induction Training Course.

12 recruits completed training today after a weekend on Code of Conduct, basic foot drill, how to wear and maintain the NZ Army Uniform, Unit and NZCF history, Army Cadet Ranks and Required Physical Level Test.

The parade was reviewd by the Area Support Officer and Unit Commander Major Crawshaw, who presented the graduation Certificates and the Top Recruit award.
Recruit Jefferies was awarded the top recruit for the 02/18 R.I.T Course.

Next parade night. The Recruits will go through the initiation ceremony, where the Recurits will be present their berets with the Unit Colours patch. After they will recieve the Unit Haka and formally welcomed into the Unit.

Tauranga Army Cadets

Tonight the previous Unit Commander, Squadron Leader Tony Young returns to active service and assumed the role of Executive Officer of the Unit.

Also tonight, the Area Support Officer, representative members from the Unit, 16 Squadron and Training Ship Chatham attend the 100th Birthday of the Tauranga RSA.

Over the period of 8th - 16th September, the Unit Commander/ Area Support Officer- Major Crawshaw staffed the NZCF Officers Command Course. Also amongst the staff was former Unit Executive Officer, Lieutenant Ruawai who is now Unit Commander if Hamilton City Army Cadets.
Amongst the students was Ensign Northcott former Unit Executive Officer who has recently taken command of Training Ship Chatham.
